Columbus Avenue / Bimbos 365
At this part of the chase, both cars are thundering through the dense North Beach district, a mixed-use area that features coffeeshops, Italian restaurants, pizza joints, bars and nightclubs, and apartment buildings. Prominent in these two shots is the Bimbo's 365 club, at 1025 Columbus Avenue, where Chestnut and Taylor Streets converge (think of Columbus as a street diagonally bisecting a perfect grid).
I took the bottom photo in 2009 while wandering around North Beach one day. I tried as best as I could to replicate the 1968 view in the Bullitt screen-cap at the very top, but I was also not willing to stand out in the middle of a busy Columbus Avenue.
The biggest difference, which I found to be evident on much of my Bullitt site excursions, is that there are far more trees in today's San Francisco than in 1968, which can affect how my photos are framed.
