Daniels Hotel
226 Embarcadero (at Howard St.)

Known as the Kennedy Hotel in real life, the Daniels Hotel was located at Embarcadero and Howard, near the Embarcadro Freeway, and was where Johnny Ross was to be kept in seclusion until he could testify at the Senate hearing.  Two gunmen entered, shot Ross and Detective Carl Stanton, then left.  The next scene takes place outside the hotel's front door, as the two men were carried into ambulances bound for San Francisco General Hospital.

The area has changed dramatically.  The building suffered major damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and was torn down.  The site is now vacant.  The Embarcadero Freeway also sustained damage and was torn down two years later.  It was after the freeway's demolition that the Embarcadero underwent its redevelopment.  The roadway was transformed into a wide, palm-tree-lined boulevard.  Several parks and plazas, including Rincon Park (home of the iconic Cupid's Span sculpture) Several tall new buildings were erected, including the Embarcadero Center and on parcels of land vacated by the freeway.

Pier 18, in the Bullitt screen-cap, is no longer in existence, as seen below. In fact, there are no piers between Pier 14, at Embarcadero between Mission and Howard, and Pier 26, located underneath the Bay Bridge near the foot of Harrison Street.    It is possible that the pier located farthest away in the above shot is, in fact, Pier 26.

The screen-cap below is the Daniels Hotel as the emergency vehicles arrive.  You can see the Embarcadero Freeway lurking in the darkness.  This was shot with the camera positioned near the current site of Rincon Park.
